Su Reddti, gli sviluppatori di Microsoft Edge, rispondendo alle domande di un AMA (Ask Me Anytthing) hanno rivelato una notizia che potrebbe interessare a molti di voi all’ascolto.
Come ben saprete Microsoft ha da qualche mese avviato lo sviluppo di Microsoft Edge basato su Chromium. La versione in sviluppo è attualmente disponibile per Windows e macOS ma ancora nulla per Linux. Tutto questo però potrebbe cambiare nel prossimo futuro.
Un utente ha chiesto di eventuali piani riguardanti il porting di Microsoft Edge su Linux e la risposta dei developers è stata la seguente:
We don’t have any technical blockers to keep us from creating Linux binaries, and it’s definitely something we’d like to do down the road. That being said, there is still work to make them “customer ready” (installer, updaters, user sync, bug fixes, etc.) and something we are proud to give to you, so we aren’t quite ready to commit to the work just yet.
Right now, we are super focused on bringing stable versions of Edge first to other versions of Windows (as well as macOS), and then releasing our Beta channels. That said, we love hearing the ask and especially love details if this is important to your test infrastructure or elsewhere in your development lifecycle so we can continue to validate and prioritize this work! – Sean
Stando ai developers non c’è alcun blocco tecnico che impedisce di creare i binari di Edge per Linux ed è sicuramente un qualcosa che il team vorrebbe fare in futuro.
C’è ancora del lavoro per completare le funzionalità di Edge ed il team di sviluppo è attualmente concentrato sul portare versioni stabili di Edge prima su Windows e macOS.
Se siete interessati ad usare Microsoft Edge su Linux non vi resta dunque che aspettare.
